Borneo Family Adventure - 11 days
We put the fun back into learning as we explore the hidden secrets and natural wonders of tropical Sabah. Learn how orangutans are being rehabilitated, venture into the hidden world giant turtles and contribute to the preservation of the local ecosystem. Along the way, you'll get to know the lives of traditional villagers, try some of the delicious local cuisine and have time to swim, snorkel and just relax. Sounds like the perfect holiday!
ITINERARY:
Day 1 Kota Kinabalu
Welcome to Sabah, a place where ancient traditions and exotic wildlife continue to thrive. At the Monsopiad Cultural Village, tour the mystical House of Skulls and learn about ancient legends. The nearby islands are great for snorkelling among a wide variety of colourful fish.
Day 2 Kinabalu National Park
From city life to mountain life as we head into Kinabalu National Park. Stretch the legs and take in the mountain views along the walking trails at the base of Mt Kinabalu; keeping an eye out for monkeys and colourful birds.
Days 3-4 Sepilok Orangutan Reserve
Learn about nature the fun way at Sepilok Rehabilitation Centre, where orphaned orangutans are cared for before being released back into the wild. You could also venture into their natural habitat on any of the walking trails or head into Sandakan and check out the local fish market.
 Day 5 Turtle Island
We travel by speedboat past island villages and bamboo fish traps to Turtle Island where we stay overnight. On most evenings, giant green and hawksbill turtles can be seen coming ashore to lay their eggs - the local rangers will tell us more about this amazing phenomenon and ensure we tread lightly.
Days 6-8 Jungle Camp/Malay Homestay
Our local homestay provides the opportunity to interact with villagers and learn about their unique way of life and how they contribute to the preservation of the area’s ecosystem at the same time. You'll spend a night camping in the jungle - spotting wildlife such as macaques, proboscis monkeys, crocodiles and rare wild elephants!
 Days 9-11 Kota Kinabalu
Choose your own adventure: go on a picnic on the nearby island of Dinawan, catch a steam train past water buffaloes and paddy fields to cosy little Papar or take a memorable horse ride along the beach.
