Skiing in Whistler
We spent a long weekend in a cabin in Whistler, BC during February. The snow was deep and the lifts were busy. About 2 hours north of Vancouver, Whistler/Blackcomb offers a modern and well organized Ski-arena with international flair. With mountain peaks reaching 2200 meters and an accessible glacier, the ski-lifts at Whistler are open from November to July. They have 3 main lift areas with lots of runs for every type of skier, and Whistler/Blackcomb was voted the best ski resort in North America by Conde Nast Traveler. I stayed mainly on the green runs, but my friends had a wonderful time racing down the black diamond slopes. The village offers lots of après-ski and the shopping is great. We spent one evening in the lounge of the Chateau Whistler Hotel, sipping hot chocolate and listening to a pianist playing wonderful music. They also have many good restaurants and pubs to choose from. We took a day off from the slopes and drove north to a frozen lake along a very quiet road - seemed like we were the only people in the world. It's easy to get away from it all and enjoy the stillness of the Canadian winter. Hopefully my skiing will improve and I can try the more challenging runs on my next visit.
