New England - A Kaleidoscope of Colours
In late October I rented a car in Toronto and drove to Boston. I had 2 weeks to explore New England and enjoy the colourful fall foliage. I stopped to visit the Niagara Falls - the best viewpoint is from the Canadian side and the horseshoe falls are impressive. Then I drove for 2 days before reaching Boston - a wonderful University town with lots to see and do. My friends took me to the Science Center and I had a virtual helicopter tour of the city in the Omni Max theater. We also took a day to explore Cape Cod and Provincetown. I really enjoyed the drive and the quaint fishing villages en route. A storm made our way back more exiting than we had hoped for. The fall foliage was at it's best - a kaleidoscope of colours with a new variation around every bend in the road. Driving through Vermont I crossed the Green Mountains when it had just started to snow. The white silence was deafening, and mine was the only car on the road. It's wonderful to disappear into nature like that. I crossed Lake Champlain by car ferry and entered back into Canada just south of Montreal. That's a wonderful city - it reminded me a lot of Paris with it's domed churches and French atmosphere. The road back to Toronto took me along the St. Lawrence River and the Thousand Islands and Lake Ontario - it was a long and memorable journey.
