Barefoot in Bangkok

In April I travelled to Bangkok, the capital city of Thailand.

During my short stay I visited the Temple of the Emerald Buddha. It's a huge complex of smaller temples surrounding the main temple, which houses the Emerald Buddha. The statue is about 2 feet tall and cut from a huge piece of emerald. All the temples are richly decorated in gold leaf - it is quite a sight. Just remember to wear closed shoes - no sandals, when visiting a temple. They'll make you use their plastic galoshes- ugh... after a few steps in those, I decided to go barefoot instead.

We also went to the Rose Garden, where they demonstrated Thai boxing, traditional dancing, cock fights, as well as working elephants. It's interesting for people who don't have time to go and explore other parts of Thailand.

Bangkok is a huge traffic jam. Allow lots of time to get to the airport. Shopping was very good - they sell a great variety of furniture, decorative art, jewellery and gemstones, silks, clothes - the list is endless. And their food is a real feast for the senses. Enjoy!
